Almost entirely vegan, great Chinese with cheap lunch specials, a large dim-sum menu, big portions, tasty food, and friendly service. It's common to see Hassidic jews right next to Buddhist monks at this place.

Since I live in Chinatown, I go here pretty often. It is the cleanest and friendliest of the Chinese vegetarian restaurants down here in this neighborhood and they have both a large menu filled with almost entirely vegan selections, but also a dim-sum menu where you can check off whichever small items you'd like and sample a lot of different things in one meal. At lunch time there is also a lunch special menu available which will usually consist of some mock meat or tofu with vegetables and rice, and your choice of soup or a spring roll for a reasonable price of less than $10. The service is friendly and the crowd seems to be a mix of Buddhists, vegetarians, and orthodox Jewish folks who are taking advantage of the restaurant's kosher certification. The restaurant is clean and the portions are generous. Crowds can develop around the lunch hour and if you are only one or two people, you can elect to sit at one of the large round tables possibly with a few other people you don't know, but the room is big enough that this is usually not necessary except at the busiest times of the day.

I love this place mostly because I haven't really had much junk Chinese food since I became a vegetarian and it's great being able to eat those things... read more

Chinatown serves foodies well with an array of haphazardly placed restaurants on windy streets like pell & mott. Buddha Bodai is much like the other places... read more
